We just don't get no respect. When the American Planing Association selected the best of the best, while both San Diego and San Francisco (and New York) made the cut - we just got plain... cut.
American Planning Association Announces the 2007 Great Places in America
APA celebrates the first 10 Great Streets and 10 Great Neighborhoods designated through its new national program, Great Places in America. Launched last spring, Great Places in America celebrates places of exemplary character, quality, and planning. Places are selected annually and represent the gold standard of communities, offering Americans better choices for where and how to work and live.
New York got Park Slope and 125th Street, San Diego got Hillcrest, Frisco got North Beach and LA ... got kicked to the Curb. In fact our version of CURBED empire was too embarrassed to even mention the contest it lost (and we should all hold them personally responsible for this loss) to two of its siblings.
So go to the list at the link - and decide what street and what neighborhood and what great public space we should submit for 2008.
And no singing fountains need apply!
